โšก Tips for Better Discoveries

โ€ข Choose domains that are different but potentially complementary

โ€ข Write detailed descriptions โ€” this significantly improves output relevance

โ€ข Add landmark papers using Quick Add DOI to ensure key work is included

โ€ข Discovery is not always guaranteed โ€” genuine insights are rare and valuable

โ€ข If no insightss are found, try broadening your descriptions or exploring adjacent sub-domains

โ“ About & Help

Welcome to Research Odyssey

The Journey of Discovery โ€” Conceived and built by researchers, for researchers.

Research Odyssey is not a chatbot or a general-purpose AI tool. It is a research intelligence platform that discovers interdisciplinary serendipity between research domains that you define.

Like Odysseus navigating uncharted waters to reach Ithaca, you; the researcher, are the navigator. You choose the domains. You frame the questions. The platform analyses research outputs across your chosen fields using proprietary algorithms and reveals transdisciplinary revelations that would take weeks of manual review analysis to uncover.

For each discovery, the platform generates a detailed comprehensive analysis explaining how methods, materials, and findings can be used to reveal a new insight. These insights are specific, grounded in real published papers, and tailored to your research areas.

Research Odyssey does not replace your expertise; it amplifies it. The more precisely you articulate your research questions, the more powerful the platform becomes.

The platform is a living system. Every analysis enriches its understanding. Like the philosophy of research itself, it continuously generates new knowledge; always learning, always at the edge of discovery.

Your journey of discovery begins here.

How It Works

Discovery Mode (For Professors)

  1. Define your research domains: Give each domain a name and a detailed description (minimum 50 characters). Include methods, materials, goals, and applications.
  2. Fetch papers: Click Auto-fetch to retrieve up to 20 relevant outputs per domain. You can also add landmark papers using the Quick Add feature โ€” simply paste a DOI or arXiv ID.
  3. Run analysis: Click "Run Discovery Analysis". The platform uses proprietary algorithms and knowledge bases, enhanced by NL and deep learning to reveal potential interdisciplinary insights.
  4. Review discoveries: Each discovery includes a comprehensive analysis with specific research questions to pursue.
  5. Rate discoveries: Use the traffic light system to rate each discovery (green = strong, yellow = emerging, red = weak).
  6. Download your report: Get a professional PDF with all discoveries, paper references, and analysis.
  7. Explore in 3D: View the interactive visualisation showing your research domains and their serendipity in three-dimensional semantic space.

Explore Mode (For PhD Students)

  1. Search for papers: Enter search queries for two topics and click "Search Both Topics".
  2. Read and select: Browse titles. Click "View Paper" to read the full text on the publisher's website.
  3. Fetch more if needed: Click "Fetch More Papers" if you need a wider selection. Tick and select suitable papers.
  4. Send to Discovery: Click "Send to Research Discovery" (minimum 5 papers per topic) to run the full analysis.

Tips for Best Results

โ€ข Choose research domains that are genuinely different but potentially complementary; the platform is designed to find unexpected synergies, not confirm known ones.

โ€ข Write detailed domain descriptions โ€” the richer your description, the better the paper relevance.

โ€ข Add your own key papers using the Quick Add DOI feature to ensure landmark work is included in the analysis.

โ€ข If no discoveries are found, try broadening your domain descriptions, using related sub-domains, or adding papers from different perspectives within each field.

โ€ข Start with two domains. Once you are comfortable, try three or four for more complex multi-domain analyses.

โ€ข Discovery is not always guaranteed โ€” genuine interdisciplinary connections are rare, and the absence of a discovery may itself indicate an unexplored research frontier.

Understanding Your Results

๐ŸŸข Strong Insight: The analysis reveals high serendipity. High confidence; this is a promising interdisciplinary opportunity worth pursuing.

๐ŸŸก Emerging Insight: The analysis reveals meaningful serendipity between domains. The insight is real but may require further investigation to develop.

๐Ÿ”ด Weak Insight: A tentative cross-disciplinary insight has been detected. This may represent an early-stage or speculative synergy that warrants exploratory reading.

No Synergy Found: The domains may be too similar (overlapping) or too distant (no overlapping). Try adjusting your domain descriptions or adding landmark papers.
